Updated YouTube Archive

Great news: Almost all past interviews have been retrieved, mostly thanks to faithful producer Dave Hamenachem.

I’ve started uploading them sporadically to the Jekyll and Hyde YouTube Channel, and all will eventually find their way there. So far, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Zach Hill (Hella, Goon Moon, Marnie Stern, Death Grips), Jennifer Charles (Elysian Fields, Lovage), Keith Morris (OFF!, Circle Jerks, Black Flag), Justin Trosper, and Otto Von Schirach shows have all been uploaded.

The Justin Trosper show (Unwound, Survival Knife, Nocturnal Habits) is the latest uploaded video, as well as the last one I had done before I took a break from the radio.

Enjoy!

Dead Links (on the Dirty Ground)

As some of you know, there has been a problem with the online archive.

About 6-7 months ago, the online audio archive known as Icast.co.il crashed and almost all the radio shows/podcasts were deleted. The company itself has promised to upload the files once they fixed the problem, but it seems like it’s not going to happen.

What I’m doing now is trying to trace any remains of the archive in order to upload them again. I’ve done so with a couple of interviews so far: Keith Morris and Otto von Schirach. Unfortunately, I don’t have all the files, as I foolishly trusted the Icast archive.

With the help of our old producer, Dave Hamnahem, we’re working on gathering as many of our old files as possible (especially the interviews).

If anyone has a copy of the interviews we had done, I’d be grateful if you could email the file to me at orensiegel@icloud.com (via cloud).

Thanks!

Help Eddie Spaghetti

A modern Rock n Roll legend, Eddie Spaghetti of the Suprsuckers has been diagnosed with stage 3 oropharynx cancer. He will be undergoing a surgery on June 29 and then radiation.

It is a very brutal cancer. I hope he pulls through and has the life quality he deserves with his family.

You may donate any sum to help him and his family out with medical expenses.

Trimmed Site + Being Away

Yes, I’ve been away for a few months.

I quit the radio station 6 months into my move there. Quitting the Voice of Peace was probably one of the best things I have done all year. I loved the fact I was putting music and interviewing people there that would probably make the granddaddy of hippie broadcasters roll in his grave, but dealing with the people who run that place was more trouble than it’s worth. It’s amazing such a short time and little correspondence with those people left such a bad taste, but I suppose that’s what happens when you deal with certain types of people.

I make use of my downtime in other ways, which, hopefully, could be shared here in a few months.

I’m also deleting quite a lot of past posts which I now view as too “bloggy”. More trimming will be done in the next couple of days with the hopes of making this a more coherent (albeit small) site.

My Parents Were Insects

designed by Allison Cole

I only received this a few days ago, but man, it left a mark on me already.

The new Eric Paul lyric/poetry collection titled My Parents Were Insects was officially released in early January 2013. It is seriously tiny in size and contains 26 pieces, ranging from intense frustration and emotion to hilarious Paul-stylized, rude and witty images. This release comes with a silk-screened poster.

In 2012 Paul (of Chinese Stars, Arab on Radar, Doomsday Student) released an audio tape titled I Sleep With Their Bones, which is currently sold out.

You may want to grab a copy of the book before it’s gone as well.

Thomas Hazelmyer interviewed on Jekyll and Hyde

About an hour ago the first Jekyll and Hyde show aired on the Voice of Peace. In case you missed it – here is the interview with Thomas Hazelmyer. (or click on any of the pictures)

Thomas Hazelmyer

In mid-November 2012, while rockets were shot in our direction, I rang up Mr Thomas Hazelmyer, the owner and brainchild behind the legendary label – Amphetamine Reptile.

From the 80s to the 90s, workaholic Hazelmyer sought out to promote and support bands he loved and respected through a business venture. This started as a way to support the community he loved and was part of. Besides his own Halo of Flies, the label released music by the Cows, Melvins, Helmet, Hammerhead, the Thrown Ups, Surgery, Unsane, Boss Hog and many others.

The Label went through a radical transition in the 2000s and in recent years focuses on artistic, handmade editions of vinyl LPs. Besides dealing with AmRep, Hazemyer also revived, in a way, Halo of Flies, as H.O.F. If you thought this takes all of his time, think again. He also runs a popular, longstanding bar named Grumpy’s in Minneapolis and spends quality time with his wife, 2 children and dog.

Haze XXL with Gay Witch Abortion Clinic

Though Haze would be reluctant to admit it, he’s a terrific interviewee. I held on to this interview until I was accepted to the legendary Israeli radio station – The Voice of Peace, a station that operated pirate from the Mediterranean sea from the 70s to the 90s. I was excited that from now on I’ll be able to host all shows in English and still keep the Jekyll and Hyde format and concept. Thereby, I’d be able to play all types of genres and support all my favorite artists on a grander scale. (i.e.Gas Huffer are here to stay)

Enjoy the show, here’s the playlist:
